Welcome to OET Phonics Adventure: Read & Rhyme!

OET Phonics Adventure: Read & Rhyme is a fun and engaging course designed to help young learners develop foundational reading skills by focusing on short and long vowel sounds and blending them together to form words. Through interactive activities, rhyming games, and story-based lessons, students will build confidence in their ability to decode words, recognize vowel sounds, and create simple rhymes. This course is the second level of the OET Phonics Adventure series and serves as a bridge from the basic introduction of the alphabet to early reading proficiency.

By the end of the course, students will:

  • Identify and produce short and long vowel sounds in words.
  • Blend consonants and vowels to read simple CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) and CVCC (consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant) words.
  • Recognize and generate rhyming words.
  • Read short words and phrases using learned vowel sounds with improved accuracy.
  • Use rhyming words to create simple sentences and stories.
  • Enhance reading fluency with the ability to recognize vowel sounds in various word patterns..

Course Structure for OET Phonics Adventure: Read & Rhyme

1. Introduction to Short Vowels

  • Lesson 1: “A is for Apple” – Introducing the short /a/ sound with CVC words (cat, bat, map).
  • Lesson 2: “E is for Elephant” – Short /e/ sound (pen, bed, net).
  • Lesson 3: “I is for Igloo” – Short /i/ sound (pig, sit, fin).
  • Lesson 4: “O is for Octopus” – Short /o/ sound (dog, hop, log).
  • Lesson 5: “U is for Umbrella” – Short /u/ sound (bus, sun, cup).

2. Introduction to Long Vowels

  • Lesson 6: “A Says Its Name!” – Long /a/ (cake, gate, name).
  • Lesson 7: “E is Sweet!” – Long /e/ (tree, bee, meet).
  • Lesson 8: “I Can Fly!” – Long /i/ (bike, kite, time).
  • Lesson 9: “O is Open!” – Long /o/ (boat, home, nose).
  • Lesson 10: “U is Unique!” – Long /u/ (cube, tune, blue).

3. Blending and Rhyming
