🦴🐶 The Dog and His Reflection

Aesop’s Fable – Easy English for Ages 4–6

🎭 Character Description

🐶 Dog
A brown dog with a strong body and big eyes. He carries a bone in his mouth and walks proudly.

📜 The Dog and His Reflection
Aesop’s Fable – Easy English Version

NARRATOR:
One sunny afternoon, a hungry dog was walking near a butcher’s shop.
Suddenly, he spotted a big, tasty bone lying on the ground.

His eyes lit up with excitement.
He quickly grabbed the bone in his mouth and wagged his tail.

NARRATOR:
Proud of his prize, the dog started walking home.
On the way, he had to cross a small wooden bridge over a quiet river.

As he walked across, he looked down into the water below.
There, he saw another dog holding a bone in its mouth.

But that wasn’t another dog.
It was his own reflection in the water!

NARRATOR:
The dog didn’t know that. He thought,
“That dog has a bigger bone than mine! I want it too!”

So, he growled and opened his mouth to bark:

🦴 DOG (thinking):
“Woof! Give me your bone!”

NARRATOR:
But the moment he opened his mouth—
SPLASH!
His own bone fell from his jaws and dropped into the river.

He looked down in shock.
The water rippled, and the bone disappeared beneath the surface.

The dog barked again and again, but the bone was gone.
He tried to find it, but the river had carried it away.

Now, he had nothing.

NARRATOR (ending):
If the dog had been happy with what he had,
he wouldn’t have lost it all.
Sometimes, wanting more can leave you with nothing.

THE END.
