NARRATOR:
One morning, a milkmaid walked to town with a pail of milk on her head.
She smiled and began to dream.
👧 MILKMAID (thinking):
“I will sell this milk. With the money, I’ll buy eggs.
The eggs will hatch into chickens.
I’ll sell the chickens and buy a dress. A pretty red dress!”
NARRATOR:
She walked and dreamed more.
👧 MILKMAID (thinking):
“At the party, everyone will say,
‘Wow! You look so lovely!’ I’ll toss my head and smile.”
NARRATOR:
She laughed and tossed her head—
SPLASH!
The pail fell. The milk spilled on the ground.
NARRATOR:
No milk. No eggs. No chickens.
No money. No dress.
All gone.
NARRATOR (ending):
She learned:
“Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.”
