3. Role-Playing Scenarios

• Scenario #1: I’d like to give you a scenario and ask you to act it out. Imagine
  you’re planning to have dinner at a new restaurant in town. Call the restaurant and ask three or four questions about their menu, special dishes, and reservation options. (Note: Remember to use polite language and practice your communication skills as you inquire about the details for your upcoming dining experience.)

• Scenario #2: Imagine you are planning to visit a nearby city for the first time and need directions to a popular landmark. Call the local tourist information center and ask three or four questions to gather the necessary information. Inquire about the best mode of transportation to reach the landmark, the operating hours, and any nearby attractions you can explore after visiting the landmark. (Note: Remember to be polite and clear in your communication.)

• Scenario #3: Imagine you are interested in taking dance lessons. Your task is to call a dance school and ask three or four questions about their dance classes. (Note: Feel free to be creative with your questions and try to make the conversation as natural as possible. Take a moment to gather your thoughts, and when you’re ready, go ahead and make the call! Remember to express your enthusiasm for dance and show genuine interest in the classes.)

• Scenario #4: Imagine you are planning to take up photography as a hobby and
  want to inquire about photography classes at a local studio. Pretend to call the
  studio and ask three or four questions about their photography classes. Feel free to ask about the schedule, level of expertise required, class sizes, or any other relevant information you would like to know before enrolling. (Note: Remember to be polite and friendly during the conversation.)

• Scenario #5: Imagine your foreign friend is planning to visit your country for one week and is looking for accommodation. Offer your help and assistance in
  finding suitable accommodation options. Ask your friend about their (1)
  preferences and (2) requirements for the stay, and (3) provide them with relevant information about hotels, hostels, or other lodging options available in your area. (Note: Be sure to show genuine concern and willingness to assist throughout the conversation.)

• Scenario #6: Imagine you are a student studying abroad in a country with a rich cultural heritage. You have heard about a traditional celebration or festival that is coming up, and you want to learn more about it. Call a local cultural center or community organization and ask three or four questions about the cultural tradition. Inquire about its significance, the customs involved, and if there are any opportunities for you to participate or learn more about the celebration. (Note: Remember to be respectful and show genuine interest in understanding and embracing the cultural tradition.)

• Scenario #7: Imagine you and your partner are going grocery shopping together for dinner tonight. Discuss the following with your partner (1) different meal options, (2) the ingredients you will be needing for a specific meal (e.g., Kimchi Stew), and (3) make choices based on your preferences and dietary needs.

• Scenario #8: Imagine you are a traveler in a foreign city, and you need to
  purchase a public transportation ticket to explore the area. Pretend to call the
  local transportation service and ask three or four questions about ticket options, prices, and the routes available. (Note: Be sure to express yourself clearly and confidently during the call.)

• Scenario #9: Imagine that you and your friends are planning a weekend get-together. Pretend that you need to call a nearby resort or venue to inquire about their facilities and services. Ask three or four questions to gather all the necessary information for your group event. Be sure to discuss available amenities, accommodation options, and any special activities or packages they offer for weekend gatherings. (Note: Remember to use polite and clear language while making the call. Take a moment to think about what questions you would ask, and then go ahead and act out the conversation with the resort or venue representative.)

• Scenario #10: In this role-playing scenario, you are a foreigner attending a local cultural event in a foreign country. You need assistance with the program schedule. Imagine you are at the event venue and approach an event organizer or staff member. Begin the conversation by introducing yourself as a visitor and then ask three or four questions about the event’s schedule, including the timing of performances, activities, and any special presentations.
