IMPORTANT!

Before you start the practice test, review the file below to be more familiar with OPIc. Your teacher will provide you with the rest of the information you need to know.

How OPIc works.pdf

The practice test includes the following:

A. Background Survey – A questionnaire that collects your information, such as work, school, home, personal activities, and interests. The result of this survey    determines the list of questions you will answer during the practice test and the real OPIc test. Click here to access the survey questions.

B. Self-Assessment – As a test taker, you will select the description that you feel most accurately describes your speaking ability in the target language. This will determine which one of the five OPIc test forms is generated specifically for you.
Click here to see the self-assessment choices.

C. Introduction and Warm-up – In the real test, you will receive a complete
explanation of OPIc test procedures and instructions, including a sample test
prompt. Then, all OPIc tests will start with Ava stating, “Let’s start the interview
now. Tell me something about yourself.” This will serve as your warm-up and
will not be rated. After this, Ava will give you prompts/questions according to
your responses from the survey.

The Practice Test Flow:

  1. The teacher will ask you to answer the background survey first.
  2. The teacher will then ask you to choose your level through the self-assessment questionnaire.
  3. Answer each of the questions/prompts for 2 minutes and 30 seconds (recommended). Remember your target level as you consider the length of your answer. To begin the test simulation, the teacher will access this material and act as the OPIc avatar, Ava.
